I LOVE these hay nets, I think the web site is very confusing to know what you are ordering. It would be nice, too, if the packaged items were marked what they are. People are very very friendly and helpful ! Well made, long lasting.

In addition to the 1/2 bale hay nets, I have 4 of these also and have the same positive opinion of them. They don’t have any knots and hold up very well to the weather and the horses. Our horses have been eating out of these particular nets for almost 2 years now and the nets show no sign of wear, unlike other brands that we have tried. I attached oval clips to the top of these nets and hang them to eye hooks that we have installed all along the barn yard fence and round pen. It works great and reduces waste. The horses prefer the nets to loose hay. I think it is more calming and simulates grazing small amounts as opposed to large mouthfuls. I did purchase 1 1/4″ nets because I found they mastered the larger holes very quickly.

I have only been using these hay nets for a week so no idea how they will hold up long term. Shipping was fast and I really like the netting these are made of. My horses are used to slow feed nets so the switch over was no problem. I am using these in a hay steamer and so far it is working out great. I am recommending these hay nets to my friends.

I buy these because I like the mesh size and material. I don’t like the draw string as it is too thin IMO…it may be strong but after tying it to a ring or stationary post, the knot is very hard to undo. Would be better to have a thicker cord rather than the thin one. Thanks

thank you for the review – please note we do have a rope upgrade available in the accessories/DIY section for those folks who want to use the draw string for hanging

Even tho I ordered the wrong size return and refund was very prompt and my bag reorder was also prompt. Great product have used these for 2 years now. Love them!

Purchased 2 – 1″ heavyweight single serve with upgraded cords. These appear to be very sturdy. Have had them in service a couple weeks now with no issues. Horses like these much better than the .75″ I previously purchased as they were having challenges getting the hay out of the smaller netting. It did take about one week of use for this bag to stretch out and match the size of the .75″ net bag. I will be purchasing a second set. I highly recommend.

These bags came highly recommended by a friend. They are very high quality and durable. My horse went right to it. The spacing is perfect for him to be able to eat (slowly) but not get frustrated. Highly recommend!

Love these hay bags!! My horses are ferocious eaters and these hay bags hold up to their roughness. Highly recommend these hay bags, they are easy to fill and hang with a carabiner and double ended snap. I have two different sizes which are perfect for my use during the winter months and summer.

Love these hay bags. This is my 2nd set of 3/4″ and 1″ heavy duty bags. I split up my foodie’s hay between the 3/4″ and 1″ so they don’t get too discouraged with the ultra slow 3/4″. It works out great. Highly recommend!

These are the BEST hay bags I have ever used (and I have used a lot!). They are easy to stuff and seem like they are going to be much more durable than our knotted poly bags. Thanks for the great product!!

Love the quality of the nets. My mare seems to work harder getting hay out compared to other nets with same sized holes.

  14. Cindy M. (verified owner)

My horses have mastered all of the larger hole hay bags. The .75″ hay bags still manage to keep them munching for a few hours. A stuffer/holder would be helpful for these nets. I use a box a little smaller than the bag and pull the edges over the top. This seems to work fairly well for stuffing the multitude of bags I use every day.

We love the net itself. The only problem we have is with the cord to close the bag up. I wish it was thicker cord to close the bag. The plastic closer does not seem to keep the bag closed well enough. Otherwise the bag works great and slows our fast eaters down.

We do have a rope option for the pull strings if a customer wishes to have a heavier draw cord. We do suggest a small slip knot after the cordlock to lock the bag closed. Thank you

My horses can’t get any hay out of the holes. Otherwise I think the hay bags are good quality.

You ordered a 1″ mesh, We have larger hole nets available that you could have purchased instead. The 1″ mesh is one of most popular hole sizes.

My little Ledger loves these new bags. I got him two and I will be ordering more. Very pretty blue color and they are easy to fill and the closure is easy- my hands are healing from tying up old nets. I got the optional rope pull too. …. they are great! Thanks for a great product!

I love these hay bags. I’ve tried a couple different ones and these are the best. I love how easy they are to fill, how well they work, and how sturdy they are. My only reason for not giving them five stars is I wish the string closure/tightener was metal and more heavy duty rather than plastic.

I want to start by saying I do love the net but was not pleased with how I could not get 10 to 12 lbs even close in the extreme slow feed net. We have been using 2 daily for a month now and the bag still doesn’t fit more than 8 lbs… if lucky. The 1 1/4 bag we could get closer to 10 lbs in but not the smaller hole one. I wish it would have stated otherwise if they really don’t hold as much hay. Also we had 2 toggles break already and the tie rope to me is too thin even with ordering the thicker rope. We actually put the *** **** rope and toggle on the hay burner bag to make it easier to use.
With all that said the net itself is great. Its truly heavy duty and well made. Just wish they were a bit larger and different toggles.

The bags are the same size – the smaller meshes do not let the hay bulge through the holes when tightly packs, so they will hold a little less hay when packed tight. We do offer customized sized bags for folks that want something in between sizes.

We are working on getting stronger cordlocks, we are hoping to have a solution soon to improve these.

  28. Kelly (verified owner)

Perfect bag! I love this size. 1 good size flake fits and it takes hours and hours for her to get through it. I played around with all the other hole sizes and ended on the smallest 3/4″ in the heavy netting. She is very hard on her nets and an aggressive eater. I’m so happy to have found a way to keep her happy and slow her down at the same time. Worth every cent!!!

I purchased regular nets in the past and they still look like almost new . I recently purchased a 1 inch and a 3/4 inch single serve net for my rotund , laminitic gelding that no matter what I did , I couldn’t slow his eating down . These nets make his hay last thru the night and you can really put alot of hay in these small ones . He seems to like eating out of these and I no longer worry about him running out of hay overnight !

I love these hay bags! The smaller single serving bag is perfect for AM/mid day feedings. It holds much more than the standard hay bags made by other companies. It’s perfect for my big guy. Being a 1700 lb horse, he eats a “little bit” more than the average horse. The materials they’re made from are sturdy yet soft. I have no concerns about his sensitive lips. I definitely will purchase more hay bags from you!

Big wide mouth for easy fill. Qin holes make the hay bag last hours longer than larger hole nets. Smaller holes allow for less waste too since nothing falls out. Thick netting that horses don’t chew through. These last and are worth the $$$

  44. Cindy L. (verified owner)

VERY soft with no knots. Nice weight to these, easy to open and fill. The 1.25 opening is good for those needing to really slow down hay intake. Netting is thicker, not thin and abrasive. Have tried several brands so far and this is my favorite.

One of the very best hay nets there is! Perfect for placing on the ground so horses can eat more naturally. I love the slender cord and the black cord stopper that makes it really easy to close the bag tightly and then daisy-chain the cord. Soft on the horses’ mouths, unlike the knotted kind. Customer service is the best ever, too!! (No, I do not work for them and they did not bribe me to say this!)

I love Hay Burners Hay nets. They are more durable and last much longer than any hay nets I have purchased before. However, the webbing on my last order (1″ single serve) was much lighter weight than the previous ones I’ve received. I do have concerns about how long they will last, we will see!

    (0) (0)
    • laurie (store manager)

Hi Tamsen, The material is the same as we have used for several years now. I think your previous nets were the flatter cord. These are the same fiber and netting is made to the same strength requirements but it is a different manufacturing company for the base netting.

  50. Andrea League (verified owner)

This hay net is easy to use. It is much softer than any others I have used. I like that there are no knots. The single serve bag holds a lot of hay in my opinion. I have three bags now – two singles and one that is one size up. I could have probably used all singles. The bags are sturdy and instructions for hanging are very clear. I hang them with a type of carabiner that you can lock. Very simple.

I can’t say enough about these hay nets. They are the first nets that my “mouthy” mare hasn’t chewed through! I have two minis that use the 3/4 inch nets and two easy keeper mustangs that use the 1 inch nets. The material is so soft and easy to handle. The openings are wide and easy to fill. I recommend the rope upgrade. Laurie provides top notch customer service. My nets shipped on the same day I ordered them! Trust me, you can stop searching for the perfect hay net. You have arrived!

Very sturdy bag. Good quality. Like others I am not a fan of the string but I just swapped it out for heavier rope. This is my second bag. I have a larger one too. If I need more hay nets I will certainly shop here.

Durable and well made. I put four of these scattered along our paddock paradise track to keep the horses moving. They are a good size for easily inserting 1 to 2 flakes from a small square bale. More than that you have to work to get them stuffed in. The only negative would be the size and shape are inconsistent from one bag to the next, but not a problem for me since I only put 1-2 flakes in each one.

These bags are perfect for my Minis (0.75″ openings). One fill last them 8h. Even a more stemmy first cutting works fine, but usually use them with steamed second cutting grass hay (one of my Minis has asthma). Over the last 11 years I have tried a variety of different slow feeders and these are by far the best, especially for Minis. I used to use bags with heavy webbing from a different company and my feeling was that they were just too harsh on my Mini’s gums, plus the openings were not small enough. These nets are soft and have no knots, are easy to fill when placed inside a regular muck bucket. I just love them.

I love these hay bags. They do not tear up my mare’s nose like other bags. My gelding is very rough on his hay bags, and these are holding up great!

The best nets! I have a bunch of these nets, some are 4-5 years old and still going strong. They are very well made and I really like the wide opening which makes it so easy to slip in a flake or two or three… The lack of knots is a real plus. My girls are both easy keepers with one being PPID/EMS so slowing them down and make the hay last is essential to keeping them slim and in good health. I do double some of the nets with the smaller holed net inside the larger because these girls are masters when it comes to extracting hay. It helps with the hay lasting a bit longer and doesn’t seem to cause any frustration. I decided to get two more to get through our winter and went with 3/4 holes which doesn’t seem to phase my girls.

I am so glad to find Hayburners slow feed net for my IR horse again. It’s perfect having 2. It is essential, works great, indestructible, easy to fill, I love the closure system. I attached a large carabiner and away we go. Thank you very much Hayburners.

I have two bags that have been in daily use for a year yet still look brand new. I just bought a third so I can fill all three at once and just grab a full bag for the next couple days.

So far these are the best nets I have used. I hope they hold up; I have only had them for about 2 weeks. They are super easy to fill. I love how soft they are. Great nets!

The bag is fine, I have a horse with “snaggle” teeth and I was worried about regular bags with the knots making his tooth come out, but the “String” that come with it is RIDICICULOUS its completely unusable I had to take it out and put an old bags rope on it to be able to hang the hay bag, the one that come with it is a TINY thin STRING

We have the rope option available if you do not like the paracord drawstrings- Product description explains that the net comes with the paracord drawstring or you can upgrade to the rope option – Many folks do like the paracord because its strong and it holds well

I love the knotless hay net material (1 1/4″) and the size is perfect for a 5-6 pound hay meal for my horses. The opening is large and I am able to drape it over a bucket then flip it over to fill it easily. Laurie is very helpful to work with.

These are very sturdy hay nets. I like the option of a larger hole size as my mare gets frustrated otherwise. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is I would love it if the “tail seam” could be on the bottom (opposite end of opening). Also, when I made my first net purchase, I did not know the rope pull would be so thin. The optional thicker rope pulls are much easier to use, so I highly recommend using those. It’d be great if there were more color choices. All in all, a very good net and value.

I love this bag I ordered 2 of them to preload with my horses hay each day so the person I board with can just grab it and feed quick. The wide opening makes loading it really easy and it holds right around 10pounds of a Timothy Orchard Grass mix. The only thing I would suggest is to order the upgraded rope closure. It comes with a string of 550 paracord and it really should just come standard with a 1/4 inch rope instead. That is my only complaint.

thank you for the review, many folks like the paracord (its probably a 50/50 split) thats why we offer the option of ropes 🙂

I have an insulin resistant horse that gobbles his hay like there’s a prize for the fastest eater. I’ve looked at every website to find something to slow him down. Then I found out about hay burners bags. The difference in quality between these and every other slow feed bag I’ve ever found is significant. The fibers are soft and thick, the draw string is heavy duty and has a sliding clasp. The best part is the size of the openings. I started with 1 1/4″ because I didn’t want my gelding to be too frustrated. I ended up buying a 1″ and a 3/4″ as well. I use the 3/4″ as a snack bag because he really has to work to get anything out.

I have tried a few different slow feed hay nets. My horse’s definitely prefer the soft material of the webbing used in Hay Burners. I now have several of these in different hole sizes for different situations – bigger holes for winter allow horses to eat their fill in a healthy time frame and help avoid hay waste. Smaller holes when I’m looking to slow their intake. I will definitely be using Hay Burners from now on.

This hay net is actually a little larger than I expected. I like the spring clip closure Hay Burners use for their products, and I know from past experience that my money has not been wasted. I use these for my chubby donkey and her goat buddy, who deliberately try to chew holes through them. Even with their naughty tag team efforts, these nets will last long enough to make me happy.

The quality of these bags are amazing. The netting is thick and soft. My horses and donkey are pretty rough on them but they haven’t shown any signs of wear or tear after several weeks of abuse. I love them! Will never go back to cheap knotted nets.

My horses and donkeys live out 24/7 on a .25 mile track. The Hay Burners single serve 1” net is my hay net of choice. I now have 14 of them spread out along the track. They are extremely well-made and durable. Most importantly, they slow my herd’s rate of feeding down so that I can manage every animal’s weight while also keeping forage consistently available. These nets are easy to fill, knotless and made with a soft thread that will not damage teeth and gums. Overall, I’m very happy with my Hay Burners nets!

I’ve tried so many hay nets and Hay Burners single serving have been the best! Durable, easy to fill, perfect size so horses don’t over-eating while providing enough to last them all day. You can’t find a better hay net in this price range.
