Recently a long standing customer of Hay Burners Equine contacted us regarding Medical Grade slow feed hay nets.  This was a request from our customers’ veterinarian to deal with a metabolic issue.  As long as we’ve been manufacturing hay nets we had never heard this term being used.  Upon a quick Google search the following was discovered:

For horses with medical considerations, look for specific design features rather than the “medical grade” label:

• Small Hole Size: Nets with 1″ or even 3/4″ openings are recommended for horses prone to choke, founder, or obesity, as they significantly slow consumption.
• Knotless material is often preferred as a softer option that is less likely to cause dental or gum damage compared to some knotted or metal grate options.
