I am sorry about any confusion, the item description shows as noted below. I will try to make it even clearer

Small Mini (holds about 1 pound of hay approximately 16″x 16″ when stretched) about the size of a basket ball when full
Large Mini bag (holds about 3 pounds of hay approximately 16″x 25″ when stretched )

Love them!! This is my second time buying the small mini bags as first one’s finally needed replaced after many years of abuse from an aggressive eater. Would definitely buy again!! They are perfect size!

The nets work great for my palomino and two minis. I recommend the heavy-duty net. The horses take several hours to go through a bag.

Purchased 2 – 1″ large mini heavyweight with upgraded cords. These appear to be very sturdy. Have had them in service a couple weeks now with no issues. My 32″ mini has very crooked teeth and was having challenges pulling the hay out of the .75″ I previously purchased. The 1″ works perfectly for her and it’s an adequate size for holding up to 2 lbs of timothy hay without being too tightly packed. This bag is a little too small for my 36″ mini so I will be ordering a single serve bag for her. I highly recommend!

I love the heavy duty nets. It takes the horses a while to eat their hay and just keeps them busy. I LOVE it.

This was my second set for my mins. The 3/4″ large mini was a little too small for one of my minis with really bad teeth in the front. So I will be ordering more 1″ which is perfect for her. Highly recommend.

My tiny rescue mini needed a 1.25″ bag for easier eating with her very bad teeth. She is very happy now.

Best hay nets on the market. I have a few for each of my mini horses…….
…makes it soooo easy to feed multiple times a day. Keeps them happily
munching..even though they are not eating a lot……..reducing the chance for ulcers!
These put the waste down to nothing if you feed good quality hay.
Do NOT start w the smaller holes…buy the largest one and wean your horse as they get
used to eating from them.. Prevents a frustrated , hungry horse.

Doesn’t hold as much hay as we thought – only used it 1 time so far. Also – we have to soak hay and not sure the webbing will dry quick or stay wet. Seems really well made – strong.

I know there’s advice to be careful with this for horses. I give my guy a half size bag with most of his overnight hay AND this mini bag with the last 1.5 pounds. He gets it out and I don’t know when in the night he’s done but it does slow him down. I’m trying to avoid him going too long without having nibbles. Would love this net in a larger size!!!! I’d split his feedings half and half with a 1” net.

      Hi Alexis,
the next size up from a large Mini is the single serve, its the same length but just a bit wider . Hope this helps and thank you for your reviews

  22. Sara (verified owner)

I have overweight saddlebreds that are very mouthy. I use the 3/4” opening (smallest I can find) hay bags to keep them busy and happy. The knotless are better for their lips and I haven’t found another bag with openings small enough to keep horses from emptying bags within minutes. I’ve used them for several years and they hold up well. I hang them all over in a large dry lot to promote movement rather than have them standing at a single feeding station. One horse works hard to get every blade through the openings; another just beats it up until it falls out; either way, it keeps them busy.

Love these hay nets for my two Miniature horses. They are on a dry lot. This makes the hay last all day. It keeps them busy so their minds aren’t on mischief such as wood chewing, etc. Super durable. Although I replace the drawstring closing rope with a thick marine rope for hanging.

I bought these as boredom-busters for my arabs when they are in their stalls. I have only been using them a couple days so far, but seem to be well made and withstanding the beating of a full sized horse. Shipping was prompt. Recommend!

I bought the same feeder bag last hear that bag came with a much more ridgid netting heavier per say. This bag is nice seems to be working somewhat concerned of the netting just feels softer. So far working well thank you

    • laurie (store manager)

This was made from a new batch of netting, its made to the same specifications and by the same manufacturer as the previous lot of 3/4″. I believe the weave is just a tiny bit looser which is why its a little softer.

Very small! Shocked on how small. I will be returning both nets I purchased.

I am sorry to hear you are not happy with your purchase. Please note the bag sizes are clearly noted in the item description.

Small Mini (holds about 1 pound of hay approximately 16″x 16″ when stretched) about the size of a basket ball when full
Large Mini bag (holds about 3 pounds of hay approximately 16″x 25″ when stretched )

These heavy duty 1 1/4 inch bags for large minis are the best bag on the market. They hold up to 3 lb and I use them for my quarter horse who has allergies to oatspores so she gets limited hay twice a day and a main diet of alfalfa pellets. My mini loves the bag. To fill them I use a stable hand you can purchase from Schneider Saddlery. They are thin plastic that you can roll up insert in any bag and it will stand up.

We absolutely love these nets! My rough little donkeys have not damaged a single heavy duty bag since we bought them almost a year ago with everyday use. We exclusively use this brand now, and just purchased 5 more- 3/4″ heavy duty nets.

We have been using Hayburners nets for several years after trying multiple other brands that just didn’t hold up. These work great at helping my herd ration their hay and hold up better than any other brand I have tried.

The large mini will hold 3 pounds of hay, but not without a ton of effort and at the risk of bloodying your knuckles. It holds 1 1/2 pounds comfortably. I thought for sure that I must’ve ordered the incorrect size (small mini) last year but alas, I didn’t. One size larger that doesn’t take any effort to fill would be great as the large mini net.

    • laurie (store manager)

The large mini is very popular and majority of folks are quite happy with the size of the bag. Sorry you are not happy with your purchase, You could have returned it for the next larger size (single serve) if you were unhappy when you first filled it. We offer a large variety of bag sizes to try to accommodate most equestrian needs, what works for one person may not for another. Hay is different all over the country and different hays weigh different amounts depending on compaction and type of grass.

I love your mini horse heavy duty bags that fill to three plus pounds. I’m giving this a four-star instead of a five until I see how the netting performs as it is much limper and doesn’t appear to be what I had before. Even though I say this, it is still better than anything else in the market for minis.

I bought the 3/4 mesh for my dehorned dwarf goats. The vet said they needed a diet, and this is our solution. The goats hate it, but I love it! They really have to exercise their browsing skills. Nothing gets wasted anymore.

These hay nets are amazing! The material is durable and thick.
I love that the bungee cinch to close the net is a bright color and so easy to use. I hook these up very easily with a carabiner and snap hook with only a short bit of the bungee left which easily ties up out of the way. This is the perfect size for my minis. I know what I’m getting my BFF for Christmas!

Hands down the best hay bags on the market! Excellent netting material that is a thick, heavy-duty, knotless material. My mini horse is a super fast eater and the 3/4” holes help slow his speed-eating down at meal time. I highly recommend Hay Burners Equine Hay Bags!

  63. Helen T. (verified owner)

The quality of the bags seems to be very good and they are a soft woven material which I believe is better for the horse. The good and the bad is that I bought these for my pony and my little donkey so they don’t hold very much which is the good part. The bad part is the throat that you stuff hay into is quite small so you have to put in handfuls at a time. At the same time that’s good because it’s so easy to overfeed the little ones and this prevents you from doing that!

I have a mini horse that is able to empty a hay bag faster than any horse that I’ve seen. These are very well made products and so far they have held up really well. I do need to double bag, even though I use the .75 inch size, just because is so adept at emptying anything. These are the best bags I’ve been able to find and I’ve tried many, many bags over the past 10 years to slow her down!

  65. PATRICIA (verified owner)

These bags still look brand new. I haven’t had them long but my mini mare can empty a hay bag in less than an hour, fraying and damaging the bag as she goes. She hasn’t been able to do that with these bags, even though I bought the 3/4 inch size which is the smallest hole size. I am very happy with these bags!

I’ve been using these for my mini mares. The girls are extra aggressive with their bags, shaking them to get flakes out. The bags are the quality that I hoped for and show no signs of wear and tear despite the abuse my girls give them. I would and do recommend them to everyone.

I bought the large mini bag since it said it would hold about 3# hay. It is much smaller than I expected. Handy size for tying pony to the trailer but not big enough for overnight hay. I ended up using the horse sized one for the mini.

    Great quality though.

I bought a mini large hay net and I really like it a lot! It’s very soft and easy to tie closed. I was hoping mine would be a little larger but I’m working with it. You can stuff more than you think and one of those little bags!

  72. Robyn Peterson (verified owner)

This order – the material is way thicker than first two I have – even thicker than ones in the photos – and it’s seems harder for them to get the hay out. Which seems flustering to them. So still not sure how I like them as of date.

      Hi Robyn

the 1″ is all made to the same specs, It does vary a little bit from lot to lot like most fabrics.

  73. JOY (verified owner)

I like the knotless hay net material (1 1/4″) but the opening to stuff the hay is very narrow. I like to drape the hay net over a bucket and flip it upside down to fill the net but cannot do this with this very small net.

    • laurie (store manager)

The mini net dimensions are noted in the descriptions of the product. I would suggest if you want a wider net, The single serves are close to the same depth but are a fair amount wider

I bought my first bag many months ago and love it! One of the only bags I could find with 3/4 holes. It’s still in perfect condition despite my Mini using the aggressive shaking method to extract hay. I just purchased two more in the larger mini size. These bags are a life saver for anyone feeding an overweight Mini. I’m able to keep more food in front of him longer and I’m pretty sure he’s even lost some weight with this feeding method. I absolutely plan on exclusively using these bags and will look into the other styles for my big horses when my current bags wear out. Very satisfied customer!

I bought the larger size one. It said it would fit like 3 flakes, but I could barely get 1 flake of hay in it. It was made well, but definitely smaller than what’s pictured.

    • laurie (store manager)

I am sorry for the misunderstanding – the item description says up to 3 POUNDS. If you want something to hold 3 flakes of hay – that would probably be the single serves. We don’t like to use “flake” as a size because a flake can be 2″ think or 6+ inches thick depending on the baler.

We purchased 2 large miniature horse hay bags with 3/4′ holes. The cording is soft yet durable. The last set we had were worn out and getting holes from so much use. We use them 24/7 inside, outside, rain, snow & sun .I believe we used them for 9 or 10 years. Paid for themselves. Worth the price. Thanks Hay Burners Equine for great Products.

I prefer our hay *****. This mini hay bag is fine, holds a flake of hay, and gets the job done. But I don’t like the long drawstring that trails on the ground near the minis’ feet. And, all things considered, I prefer the flat back of the *******, which leads to less waste when feeding on the ground.
