What you will need:

  1. Halter: We recommend you commit a dedicated well fitting breakaway turnout halter to your muzzle.
  2. 10 Minutes: It generally takes about 10 minutes to get everything perfect the first time you install a Flexible Filly Muzzle. Subsequent halters will take about 3 minutes.

How to begin:

Use the enclosed paper ties or a string to discover the best holes to secure your muzzle to your halter.  The paper ties are a temporary tool allowing you to easily adjust the fit.

Once you are satisfied you have the correct holes aligned to the halter please remove the paper ties or string and permanently secure the muzzle with the included cable ties.

How to orient the muzzle:

Two of the “fins” have a triangle cut out. These attach to the square (side) rings on your turnout halter. Three fins will connect to the nose band, one in the center, the other two fall naturally to the sides of center.  Three fins will connect to the chin band; one in the center, two naturally to the sides of the center. (see image below).

Securing the muzzle:

First secure each triangle cut out fin with one of the enclosed low profile cable ties.  Do not wrap the fins around the halter, doing so may cause rubs.

After finding the best fit for your horse, simply trim the excess fin material just above the top hole being used.  It is fine to wait a day or two to ensure your muzzle is a comfortable distance from your horse’s mouth prior to trimming.

How the proper fit looks:

When properly installed, the muzzle should be close to but not touching the nose of the horse. If the muzzle is touching the nose simply make the fins under the chin longer, this will lift the muzzle away from the nose.

The “keeper” on the cable tie are on the outside of the muzzle and the excess is facing down and trimmed close.

Believe:

If you have fitted the muzzle properly and the muzzle is the correct size it will work famously. If you find there is too much grazing room be sure your fins are snugly secured to your halter.  The fins should not move along the nose band. If it does simply pull the cable tie tighter.

Materials:

The muzzle is made from one of the most durable polymers on the planet, fungal/mold/UV resistant.  Don’t let all that simplicity get in the way.  It has taken years to get the right materials to work this well! It is safe, effective and durable.  The muzzle is ideal for slowing down speedy eaters, limiting grazing, and can help curb minor cribbing problems. The muzzle can also keep horses from chewing on leg wraps, wood, or blankets. It works extremely well with all automatic waterers and has UV protection which works much like sunscreen for those delicate noses.

Thin Line Warranty Policy

ThinLine Flexible Filly Grazing Muzzle Warranty

  • Up to 30 days: Falls under our ThinLine Satisfaction Guarantee.  Just return the new, unaltered item for a full refund.
  • Up to 6 Months:
    • 50% discount on the purchase of a new muzzle. Email a copy of your receipt and a photo of the muzzle damage to receive a 50% off discount code. Please note the warranty requirements below.

*Note: discoloration does not affect product performance and is not covered under warranty.  Periodically clean your muzzle in a bucket with soap and bleach.

Warranty Requirements:

  • ThinLine zip ties must be used.
  • A breakaway halter must be used.
  • Photos and proof of purchase are required.

Please note: Your horse’s safety is paramount. Safety breakpoints are in place to prevent the risk of injury to your horse while wearing the grazing muzzle and the breakaway halter.

Normal wear and tear included but not limited to:

  • Discoloration, teeth marks/grazing hole wear caused by exuberant grazers or pasture mates.
  • Damage caused by a safety feature working, resulting in a torn fin.

For a 30-day return, muzzles cannot be modified.

Grazing Hole Wear:
Most horses use this muzzle for an entire grazing season (or some get up to three!) without evident wear, and some will wear the grazing hole in a few months. It will depend on how aggressive your horse is with its teeth, how many hours a day that it’s worn, and other environmental factors. One of the great features of this muzzle is that it does not damage teeth or cause painful wear.

If you experience some wear at the grazing hole, just keep an eye on it. When the hole becomes too large, over about 5 cm, you will need to purchase a new muzzle. If your horse is being super aggressive when grazing, the hole size may be too small for the grass they are trying to graze on. Allowing it to enlarge a bit or cutting a larger hole yourself will often resolve the excessive wear.

  • Warranty replacements, please send photo of damaged muzzle to Hayburnersequine@outlook.com for replacement.

I was very happy with the grass muzzle and service received!

We have just been using it for a week but so far so good. We love that fact that it is so lightweight compared to other muzzles we have used. It also appears that it will be more difficult for a horse to enlarge the hole in the bottom like previous muzzles. It can be a little tricky to get on because you do need to slide up the muzzle portion and then bring the strap up around. We put a hand full of grain in the muzzle to keep our mare interested as we put it on.

My mare and I are very happy with the flexible filly muzzle. Because it attaches to a regular halter, it is simplicity itself to put on and take off. She accepts it more readily than she did the heavier, more cumbersome muzzle she wore previously. I was even able to sandwich the zip ties between the layers of webbing on her halter noseband, by removing a few stiches and then reinforcing with new stitching. I’m sold!

I have been surprised by how well this muzzle is for my Haflinger Paint cross has been. She normally gets a muzzle off within an hour. She broke one tie in the first afternoon, which I replaced. We haven’t messed with it since. It has been 1 week. Hopefully it will continue to work for my headstrong, easy keeper.

Soft plastic – works well – only suggestion is to make one that is not clear to protect horses with pink noses from UV sunburn.

  8. SHARON M. (verified owner)

I like the concept, however, my horses are able to consume large amounts of tall grass between the fins. I followed the instructions fitting the muzzle to the horse, then readjusted to shorten the fins, even tried closing up the fins on either side of the horses mouth with another tie-wrap on the lowest hole, still didn’t help and the horses got sores from the muzzle rubbing on their jaw.

This grazing muzzle is very lightweight and breathable. It’s also very easy to size. My horse seems much more comfortable in this than the traditional basket style grazing muzzles. Thank you!!

My pony was frustrated be other muzzles and now she is munching grass happily with her flexible fully grazing muzzle

I had been using a larger muzzle of the same kind and my (Chestnut pony) mare was able to push it to the side (of course) and eat out of the bigger opening! I ordered the cob size as I heard they run a little big. I also bought the halter that goes with it. It works perfectly. My other is mare is wearing the original muzzle on a breakaway halter. No rubs and no reluctance to have it on. Great product. It expands as they push down to eat so no breathing issues either.

My horse was so unhappy with his previous muzzle he used to hide in the corner of his stall when it was time to put it on. The thin muzzle is very light weight and I’m not needing halter fleece to make it more comfortable on him. With the thin line muzzle he is a happy horse again.

My horse was a little unsure at first, this was so different from his “bucket” grazing muzzle. It did not take him long to figure out the Flexible Filly was lighter and much cooler. It is working well.

I moved my horse to a new boarding farm and discovered the muzzle I owned wouldn’t fit in the automatic waterer. This muzzle works just fine with the automatic waterer, plus it appears to be comfortable for my horse. I recommend springing for the halter which is designed to work with the muzzle. I tried to use my own halter at first and couldn’t get the muzzle to hang straight , but with the Thinline halter it is very easy to make the proper adjustment.

We have a very stout 13h pony who is turned out 24/7. She was gaining weight with her other muzzle. I began to research muzzle options and saw an add for the Flexible Filly with the smaller hole so I purchased it along with the halter. The fitting seemed a little intimidating but the instructions are clear. The video helped me a lot! She has been wearing it for almost 5 weeks and has lost roughly 75 pounds! Keep in mind, she had already been wearing a muzzle, we just switched to the Flexible Filly. I love how breathable it is! We did have a tear in it at the center hole after about 3 1/2 weeks. I sent my pics of the damage, got an immediate email response, and a new muzzle was on its way the next day. Excellent and personal customer service. I don’t write many reviews, but this one was warranted!

Actually very surprised by this product. Tried a grazing muzzle prior to this one – very heavy, thick, black. Did the job but our gelding was obviously not very happy with it. Switched to this one. Definitely more air flow, much lighter and really like the clear aspect. Our gelding is barely bothered by it. It was also very easy to attached to our break-away halter and I really like using our own halter. Overall very satisfied. Now waiting to see how long it lasts.

      Hi Kelli

The muzzles have a Thinline 30 day satisfaction guarantee and a 6 month warranty – Thinline also is very helpful with fitting issues and has some nice videos. I am not sure when or where you purchased these as I see no orders in my system that match up to your name. I would suggest you reach out to Thinline and they will assist with fitting if you are beyond the 30 day return period.

This product is a game changer! Our horse had been able to remove every other grazing muzzle, so he needed to be kept in a dirt lot to prevent another founder. Now, with the thinline muzzle he can be in the field with his buddies.

The flexible filly is great! I’ve had it for a few weeks now, my mare is out on pasture but is slightly overweight so I Had tried another muzzle but she just didn’t seem comfortable and was always really hungry when I brought her in. After trying the flexible filly muzzle she is much more comfortable and is still steadily losing weight but seems like she’s also getting enough to eat in it. Overall it’s a very good muzzle!

I’ve had this muzzle on my horse for a week. I have fairly low expectations about grazing muzzles in general because they tend not to last very long. I have high hopes for this muzzle. She’s very comfortable in it and the modified hole is the perfect size. Fingers crossed it will hold up!

Very cool design; no rough edges. At the end, it is easy to cut the extra top of “fins” off—you do not need special tools. Fits perfectly on the halter.

This grazing muzzle and the thinking halter are literally saving my mates life. She can be released from a dry lot and graze with the others without eating too much grass which causes her to choke. So far it’s super comfortable making no rubbing marks on her face and is light and airy. I highly recommend.

I hate having to use grazing muzzles…but this makes it so much better for my horses and me. I wash them everyday. They wipe off easily in a bucket of water and are dry the next day. Thanks so much for this product!

The jury is still out on these. Everyone’s experience is different but for my two horses it is taking multiple adjustments over several days to get them fitted. The included twist ties don’t help much so I’m using small zip ties and “rewire” the muzzles every evening. The challenge is to prevent them from getting grass through the side cut-outs while allowing free lip movement inside the muzzle. So far they appear to feel more comfortable in traditional basket-type muzzles because they can be fitted a lot more generously. I’m pretty sure I’ll make it work eventually but I wish these cut-outs were just an inch shorter – this would make the fitting process a lot easier.

the modified hole is perfect for my guy that needed to lose a little weight and is on grass overnight. only been a few weeks and seeing significant weight loss. he’s never had laminitis, but has showed signs of subclinic laminitis and potential metabolic disease in the past, so this was the perfect solution for us. he figured out how to use it relatively fast even with slightly long grass. highly recommend!

I have tried numerous other grazing muzzle before Flexible Filly. They all rub the flared nostrils of my Paso Fino. This muzzle “bells out” to give nostril clearance and room to move the mouth while chewing. I also like the airflow space of this design. Very happy with it’s quality as well.
