What you will need:
- Halter: We recommend you commit a dedicated well fitting breakaway turnout halter to your muzzle.
- 10 Minutes: It generally takes about 10 minutes to get everything perfect the first time you install a Flexible Filly Muzzle. Subsequent halters will take about 3 minutes.
How to begin:
Use the enclosed paper ties or a string to discover the best holes to secure your muzzle to your halter. The paper ties are a temporary tool allowing you to easily adjust the fit.
Once you are satisfied you have the correct holes aligned to the halter please remove the paper ties or string and permanently secure the muzzle with the included cable ties.
How to orient the muzzle:
Two of the “fins” have a triangle cut out. These attach to the square (side) rings on your turnout halter. Three fins will connect to the nose band, one in the center, the other two fall naturally to the sides of center. Three fins will connect to the chin band; one in the center, two naturally to the sides of the center. (see image below).
Securing the muzzle:
First secure each triangle cut out fin with one of the enclosed low profile cable ties. Do not wrap the fins around the halter, doing so may cause rubs.
After finding the best fit for your horse, simply trim the excess fin material just above the top hole being used. It is fine to wait a day or two to ensure your muzzle is a comfortable distance from your horse’s mouth prior to trimming.
How the proper fit looks:
When properly installed, the muzzle should be close to but not touching the nose of the horse. If the muzzle is touching the nose simply make the fins under the chin longer, this will lift the muzzle away from the nose.
The “keeper” on the cable tie are on the outside of the muzzle and the excess is facing down and trimmed close.
Believe:
If you have fitted the muzzle properly and the muzzle is the correct size it will work famously. If you find there is too much grazing room be sure your fins are snugly secured to your halter. The fins should not move along the nose band. If it does simply pull the cable tie tighter.
Materials:
The muzzle is made from one of the most durable polymers on the planet, fungal/mold/UV resistant. Don’t let all that simplicity get in the way. It has taken years to get the right materials to work this well! It is safe, effective and durable. The muzzle is ideal for slowing down speedy eaters, limiting grazing, and can help curb minor cribbing problems. The muzzle can also keep horses from chewing on leg wraps, wood, or blankets. It works extremely well with all automatic waterers and has UV protection which works much like sunscreen for those delicate noses.

I was very happy with the grass muzzle and service received!

We have just been using it for a week but so far so good. We love that fact that it is so lightweight compared to other muzzles we have used. It also appears that it will be more difficult for a horse to enlarge the hole in the bottom like previous muzzles. It can be a little tricky to get on because you do need to slide up the muzzle portion and then bring the strap up around. We put a hand full of grain in the muzzle to keep our mare interested as we put it on.

My mare and I are very happy with the flexible filly muzzle. Because it attaches to a regular halter, it is simplicity itself to put on and take off. She accepts it more readily than she did the heavier, more cumbersome muzzle she wore previously. I was even able to sandwich the zip ties between the layers of webbing on her halter noseband, by removing a few stiches and then reinforcing with new stitching. I’m sold!

Works great!

I have been surprised by how well this muzzle is for my Haflinger Paint cross has been. She normally gets a muzzle off within an hour. She broke one tie in the first afternoon, which I replaced. We haven’t messed with it since. It has been 1 week. Hopefully it will continue to work for my headstrong, easy keeper.

Like the product! Have one of my horses that doesn’t like to keep it on:/

Soft plastic – works well – only suggestion is to make one that is not clear to protect horses with pink noses from UV sunburn.

I like the concept, however, my horses are able to consume large amounts of tall grass between the fins. I followed the instructions fitting the muzzle to the horse, then readjusted to shorten the fins, even tried closing up the fins on either side of the horses mouth with another tie-wrap on the lowest hole, still didn’t help and the horses got sores from the muzzle rubbing on their jaw.

This grazing muzzle is very lightweight and breathable. It’s also very easy to size. My horse seems much more comfortable in this than the traditional basket style grazing muzzles. Thank you!!

My pony was frustrated be other muzzles and now she is munching grass happily with her flexible fully grazing muzzle

I had been using a larger muzzle of the same kind and my (Chestnut pony) mare was able to push it to the side (of course) and eat out of the bigger opening! I ordered the cob size as I heard they run a little big. I also bought the halter that goes with it. It works perfectly. My other is mare is wearing the original muzzle on a breakaway halter. No rubs and no reluctance to have it on. Great product. It expands as they push down to eat so no breathing issues either.

The muzzle ripped after a few wears. It is covered under warranty so a new one is being shipped to me. Hay Burners was quick to respond to my concern.

Hay Burners Equine is great to work with, they sent the grazing muzzle I ordered immediately and I received it so quickly, and I was so happy with the product I bought and the price! <3

Fits well, doesn’t rub, and arrived quickly. My horse seems to prefer these muzzles, and he doesn’t wear his teeth on them like he does on others.

So far, so good. Have only used it for 4 days

My horse was so unhappy with his previous muzzle he used to hide in the corner of his stall when it was time to put it on. The thin muzzle is very light weight and I’m not needing halter fleece to make it more comfortable on him. With the thin line muzzle he is a happy horse again.

My horse was a little unsure at first, this was so different from his “bucket” grazing muzzle. It did not take him long to figure out the Flexible Filly was lighter and much cooler. It is working well.

I moved my horse to a new boarding farm and discovered the muzzle I owned wouldn’t fit in the automatic waterer. This muzzle works just fine with the automatic waterer, plus it appears to be comfortable for my horse. I recommend springing for the halter which is designed to work with the muzzle. I tried to use my own halter at first and couldn’t get the muzzle to hang straight , but with the Thinline halter it is very easy to make the proper adjustment.

We have a very stout 13h pony who is turned out 24/7. She was gaining weight with her other muzzle. I began to research muzzle options and saw an add for the Flexible Filly with the smaller hole so I purchased it along with the halter. The fitting seemed a little intimidating but the instructions are clear. The video helped me a lot! She has been wearing it for almost 5 weeks and has lost roughly 75 pounds! Keep in mind, she had already been wearing a muzzle, we just switched to the Flexible Filly. I love how breathable it is! We did have a tear in it at the center hole after about 3 1/2 weeks. I sent my pics of the damage, got an immediate email response, and a new muzzle was on its way the next day. Excellent and personal customer service. I don’t write many reviews, but this one was warranted!

Actually very surprised by this product. Tried a grazing muzzle prior to this one – very heavy, thick, black. Did the job but our gelding was obviously not very happy with it. Switched to this one. Definitely more air flow, much lighter and really like the clear aspect. Our gelding is barely bothered by it. It was also very easy to attached to our break-away halter and I really like using our own halter. Overall very satisfied. Now waiting to see how long it lasts.
